Steve Harmison’s Weird Request to Vaughany

08/07/2020 by admin
Trivia:

A sudden knock on the hotel door took Michael Vaughan by surprise. It was the day before the first Test match at Hamilton in 2008. Vaughany was at his zone and preparing for the match. He opened the door reluctantly. Steve Harmison was standing there. Steve never knocked on his door before, something must be wrong.

Padding up:

Vaughany asked Steve, if everything was all right. Steve replied, “Do you use Gunn & Moore, don’t you?” Vaughany was wondering why Steve was enquiring on his cricket gears. He said, “brilliant observation Steve but what is the issue?” He said “Skipper, can I borrow your pads for tomorrow’s game?”. That was weird. Vaughany can’t believe what he just heard. He asked what you have done with your pads? Steve innocently replied, “I forgot to bring my pads on the tour”. They spent almost two weeks in New Zealand and played a few practice games. Steve didn’t get a chance to bat and never realized the pads were missing. The night prior to the first Test match, he realized the pads were not there in his kit. However, Vaughany saw Steve was carrying a big box at the airport and he asked, “Steve what was in the box then?” Steve politely replied that was his dart board. Steve Harmison forgot to bring his pads but carried the dart board all the way from England. Vaughany was spellbound.

Michael Vaughan told the story at ‘What The Duck’ show.
