Cricket Stories

Rich Spirited Ambrose

07/28/2020 by admin

The squelch becomes more prominent. The shout to extract every bit of energy before the delivery and it’s a cracking cover drive under the dusky sky. Bisecting the flying crisscross, rolling over the wet sand and finally kissing the breaking waves. The silhouette of a raised bat signifies the victory rituals.  Everyday’s story of picture perfect beaches of Antigua where the spirit of cricket meets with the rhythm of music.

Cricket, friends & Music:

The talent, hard work and destiny helped Sir Curtly Ambrose and Sir Richard Richardson to represent the West Indies cricket team but the passion for music had enfolded a new chapter of life and they embraced it.  This is the story of the musical journey of two legends from Antigua.

The beginning:

Music is always part of upbringing for Curtly and Richie. During their international stint, they indulged in music to get relaxed from pressure.

Back in 1991, West Indies cricket team was touring England. Curtly and Richie were roommates. Richie used to play the guitar and Curtly provided the beats and sang as well. When they were in Birmingham, Curtly decided to buy a bass guitar from an adjacent store. Curtly never played bass before and learned notes from Richie. Later he learned from his friends in Antigua.

The Big Bad Dread and the Bald head:

The duo took the music seriously from 2002. Soon they joined the reggae band ‘The Big Bad Dread and the Bald head’, the name describes the hairstyles of two former members. Curtly played the bass and Richie was on rhythm. Often get accompanied by Bridgette, Curtly’s wife and Aileen, Richie’s wife.

The Spirited:

The band ‘Spirited’ was formed in January 2009 at St Johns, Antigua. Richie and Curtly joined them. The band has a great unity and all the musicians are like a family. As Curtly said ‘the enjoyment is key to success’. They are enjoying the music and doing it with full potential.

The champs had provided immense pleasure from 22 yards. Now they are entertaining us through music. Thanks a lot Sir Curtly Ambrose, Sir Richie Richardson and all the team members of band ‘Spirited’. Keep entertaining us.
