Carl Hooper – The Indian Connection

12/22/2020 by admin
Trivia:

The elegant Hooper was always a treat to watch. His style of batting attracted millions of cricket lovers across the globe. Growing up in Guyana was always special where many of his neighbors were of Indian descent. He enjoyed Indian dishes all along and celebrated many Indian festivities like Diwali etc. Hooper made his Test debut against India in Mumbai. He struggled to acclimatize to Indian conditions during his first tour and got sick. Physio, Dennis Waight suggested eating only solid food and avoid all the curries. Hooper recovered after two weeks and decided to eat everything. It was a memorable experience and enjoyed thoroughly his stay in India. While in India, he fell in love with a lady from Visakhapatnam. She was a doctor. They kept in touch for years but eventually lost the connection. Hooper always loves to visit India and have many fond memories to share.
