Brett Lee – The Salesman at Menswear
Trivia:
It was a rainy winter morning and Brett Lee had an appointment at Flare for the measurement of his Australian team blazer for the Under-19 tour to India. Lee reached the store at 8.30 AM, met with Richard Bowman, and completed the formalities. After three weeks, Binga received a call from Mr. Bowman and he offered a job at the menswear section. Lee was ecstatic and accepted it immediately. Mr. Bowman was very supportive and made sure cricket must remain the top priority. Lee used to leave the store at 2.30 in the afternoon and went to SCG for training. He used to practice till 9.30 PM and then drove two hours back home. This was the routine for Binga for years. He said the customer-focused work at the store helped him to understand the mindset of buyers, and that in turn helped him to read the batsmen’s mind. After the 2003 world cup, he was at the store and a guy asked him “Weren’t you at Johannesburg two nights ago holding up the world cup?”. Lee said, “Yes mate.” He was surprised and asked, “What are you doing at the store?” Lee replied, “Back to work, back to the real-life mate.”
