Adam Gilchrist and The Squash Ball

11/21/2020 by admin
Trivia:

Gilly was keen to change his strong bottom hand grip because he was losing the shape of his shots. He discussed with his batting coach Bob from Perth and as per the suggestion, Gilly put squash ball into the bottom hand of his glove. It helped to loosen the grip. Gilchrist practiced a lot before the 2007 world cup but never tried the technique during the match. He decided to use the squash ball during the final match against Sri Lanka. The rest as they say is history. Gilly scored 149 runs in just 104 balls and hit 13 boundaries and 8 massive sixes. After reaching hundred, he raised his left hand and showed the glove, which had a prominent lump in the middle. No one knew about it. Later he said that the gesture was for his coach Bob. An unusual but effective technique indeed.
